چکیده
EmErging infectious diseases (EiDs) range from novel zoonotic infections to infective organisms with new patterns of antimicrobial resistance. in the modern age, the speed at which infections can spread globally and transition into deadly pandemics means that surveillance must be able to monitor infections that have the potential to cause outbreaks and also to capture unknown threats that may emerge from a wide variety of sources. Because infections can travel both ways at the interface between animals and people, animal health is intrinsically linked to human health. Zoonotic influenza viruses, for example, are not only transmitted from animals to people, but can be transmitted in the other direction into animals, causing illness through recombination in either group. The Global One Health Paradigm: Challenges and Opportunities for Tackling Infectious Diseases at the Human, Animal, and Environment Interface in Low-Resource Settings
Zoonotic infectious diseases have been an important concern to humankind for more than 10,000 years. Today, approximately 75% of newly emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are zoonoses that result from various anthropogenic, genetic, ecologic, socioeconomic, and climatic factors. These interrelated driving forces make it difficult to predict and to prevent zoonotic EIDs. Although significant imp...
متن کاملUpsurge of Rodents’ Population in a Rural Area of Northeastern Iran Raised Concerns about Rodent-borne Diseases
Introduction: Rodents are the primary source of several zoonotic infectious diseases. The upsurge of rodents’ population in Najaf Abad Village of Nishapur County, northeastern Iran in February 2014 raised the concerns about the outbreak of diseases such as plague and tularemia. This report discusses the lessons learned from the outburst of rodents’ population in that village and rep...
متن کاملIntegrating one health in national health policies of developing countries: India’s lost opportunities
BACKGROUND Globally, the threat of infectious diseases, particularly emerging infectious diseases, originating at the human-animal-environment interface, has caught health systems off guard. With forecasts that future pathogen emergence will be centred in hotspots in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, the need to prepare policy frameworks that can combat this threat is urgent. DISCUSSION Emerge...
